Why Concrete 3D Printing?
Have you ever worked on a project and thought “What can take this design to the next level?” Maybe you have some inspiration from an eye catching structure or monument? Maybe a park with the perfect balance of art and nature has left an impression on you?
Either way, chances are that the properties that make the greatest impressions are those with bespoke, unique aesthetics. It’s the inclusion of features that can’t be found anywhere else that leave a lasting impression, and turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.
At Printed Patio, we’re in the business of the unique. There is nothing we love more than to turn your project into a pillar in its community through the adoption of 3d printed concrete fixtures.
Printed Patio, Florida Oceanographic Society join forces to create man-made reef
3-D printed concrete reef made for Florida Oceanographic Society's Gamefish Lagoon
STUART, Fla. (TCPalm.) — Justin D’Angelo (left), CEO and founder of Printed Patio, and print tech Grant Shirley, move pipes as a 3-D concrete reef is printed, Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, in Martin County. The 3-D reef will be put in Florida Oceanographic Society’s gamefish lagoon, a 750,000 gallon saltwater aquarium. “It will be habitat for the inhabitants of the lagoon,” said Brittany Hascup, the director of animal care and life support. “It will also serve as an example for potential future restoration projects.” The reef will be 106 inches in length and around 4 feet in depth. Benefits of 3D Printing
Concrete 3D Printing is an emerging technology, with benefits still being discovered every day. Since our founding in 2020, Printed Patio has identified and realized benefits, unique to this incredible technology.
3D Printing allows for the creation of shapes that are simply not possible with traditional forms or molds. The ability to parametrically modify designs means that there are endless possibilities based on common designs.
Specially formulated 3d printing cement typically has a much higher strength rating than traditional cement. Strength in excess of 6000PSI is not uncommon. Additionally, the ability to print structures optimized for strength is a key benefit.
3d printing only uses precisely what is needed for a given design. After calibrating the equipment and filling the hose, all the material is used exactly where needed. This represents a significant material savings over disposable forms, concrete block, or molds.
The elimination of molds and forms allows for the designer or architect to create intricate details and angles that would be otherwise be prohibitively difficult. New shapes and patterns open up a world of possibilities, ensuring enhanced artistic freedom.
With concrete 3d printing, there is no retooling or line reconfiguring, and there are minimal efficiencies gained from repetitive production. Custom pieces are crafted with the same processes from one unit to another, unlocking the ability to generate nearly endless variations of like models.
Portability and small footprint of the concrete 3d printing equipment means that production can be set up where there is demand. In the future, Printed Patio may operate printing hubs in other locations around the country, so further reduce shipping costs.
